Amy Poehler frustrated TODAY host Jenna after unexpectedly declaring that JENNA WAS NOT WORTHY of being impersonated by SNL cast members. What caused this reaction?

Jenna Bush Hager took Amy Poehler on a nostalgic trip down memory lane during a special segment on Today with Jenna & Friends

Poehler, 53, appeared on the show on February 10 and co-hosted its fourth hour alongside Bush Hager.

The moment became particularly entertaining when Bush Hager reminded the comedian of a Saturday Night Live (SNL

sketch from nearly two decades ago in which Poehler impersonated her.

Bush Hager took the opportunity to play a clip from the 2005 SNL skit, much to Poehler’s amusement—and slight discomfort.

Watching the throwback scene unfold live on air, Poehler quipped, “I’m totally sweating,” as she sat beside the Today host.

Jenna Bush Hager Reacts to the Hilarious Impersonation

The SNL sketch in question was written by Poehler’s longtime comedic partner, Tina Fey, and featured Poehler portraying Jenna alongside Fey, who played her twin sister, Barbara Bush. In the skit, the Bush sisters were depicted as college-aged party girls, speaking in a secret twin language while their father, then-President George W. Bush (played by Will Forte), struggled to keep up.

Bush Hager, now a respected journalist and TV personality, admitted she found the impersonation “excellent” and appreciated the humor in it. However, she also pointed out an amusing inaccuracy: by the time the sketch aired, she had already graduated college and was working as a third-grade teacher in Washington, D.C.

“Y’all might be thinking, ‘Oh, she’s making fun of college Jenna,’ but by then, I had actually graduated,” Bush Hager explained. “I’d walked across the stage and I was a teacher of third-graders in Washington, D.C.”

Amy Poehler’s Take on the SNL Impersonation

Poehler, ever the gracious comedian, thanked Bush Hager for taking the sketch in stride. “It’s not always easy to sit next to the person that you impersonated,” she admitted. “But thank you for having a good sense of humor about it, and it was really fun to do.”

Despite any initial nerves, Poehler emphasized that SNL impersonations come with the territory. “That is kind of part of the job of SNL—you do end up sometimes standing next to the person that you’re impersonating,” she noted.

Bush Hager, for her part, was completely entertained. When Poehler mentioned the joke about the Bush twins’ “secret twin language,” Bush Hager burst out laughing and asked, “Oh my God, I’m dying—can we watch the whole thing?” While the full sketch wasn’t played on air, Bush Hager promised to revisit it later at home.

Jenna Bush Hager’s History of Being Parodied on SNL

This wasn’t the first time Jenna Bush Hager had been spoofed by SNL. As the daughter of former President George W. Bush, she was often the subject of comedic sketches during her father’s administration. Along with Poehler and Fey’s 2005 impersonation, SNL frequently poked fun at the Bush family, with Will Ferrell famously portraying her father in numerous sketches.

Bush Hager has always taken these portrayals in good humor. In fact, she once hilariously roasted Will Ferrell for his recurring impression of her dad, joking that the exaggerated antics had become a permanent part of the Bush family’s legacy.

A Fun and Nostalgic Moment on Today

While some might feel awkward watching themselves being impersonated on national television, Bush Hager handled it with her signature charm and humor. The interaction between her and Poehler was filled with laughter, mutual respect, and a shared appreciation for comedy.

Poehler’s visit to Today was originally to promote her new podcast, Good Hang, but the discussion about her SNL past quickly stole the show. Watching the clip together turned out to be an unexpected highlight of the segment, leaving both the hosts and viewers entertained.

As the interview wrapped up, Bush Hager playfully asked Poehler again, “It is weird, right?” Poehler laughed and agreed, “It is really weird.”

Still, the moment reinforced the power of comedy, nostalgia, and the ability to laugh at oneself—something both Poehler and Bush Hager clearly embrace.
