How much influence does Whoopi Goldberg really have at The View to be able to push Joy Behar off the show after being mocked live on air?

Fans of The View have noticed the absence of longtime co-host Joy Behar over the past week, sparking curiosity about her whereabouts.

While her absence initially raised some questions, the reason behind it has now been revealed—and it’s for an exciting professional opportunity.

A Notable Absence on The View

When viewers tuned into The View recently, they found Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin seated at the panel.

However, Behar was noticeably missing from her usual spot.

This was not the first time this month that the veteran talk show host had been absent. Last week, former co-host Star Jones stepped in to cover for her, followed by Goldberg taking over on Friday.

After days of speculation, Goldberg finally addressed Behar’s absence on the February 6 episode of the show. “Joy is not here,” the Sister Act star stated. She then explained that Behar was away for the opening night of her new off-Broadway play, My First Ex-Husband. The production, which debuted at the Mac-Haydn Theater in New York, features a talented cast, including Susie Essman, Tovah Feldshuh, and Adrienne C. Moore.

A Longer Break Than Expected

Although many expected Behar to return after the weekend, Monday’s episode of The View aired without her, leaving fans wondering why she was still absent. While her week-long break might seem unusual, longtime viewers of the show understand that Behar and Goldberg each follow a modified schedule.

Typically, Behar does not appear on the Monday tapings of the show, while Goldberg is usually absent on Fridays. This arrangement allows them some flexibility in their work schedules. However, occasional schedule shifts occur, depending on the show’s needs.

Joy Behar’s Busy Theater Schedule

While The View remains an important part of Behar’s career, she is currently dedicating time to her theater project. According to the official schedule for My First Ex-Husband, Behar is set to continue performing in the play for another two weeks before a new group of actors takes over. Starting on February 26, a fresh lineup—including Judy Gold, Susan Lucci, Cathy Moriarty, and Tonya Pinkins—will step into the roles.

During this time, the play is scheduled for live performances five days a week through Sunday, February 23. Given this demanding schedule, Behar’s absence from The View makes sense as she balances her commitments between television and theater.

Will Behar Return Soon?

While fans may miss Behar’s signature humor and sharp commentary on The View, there is no cause for concern. Her absence is temporary, and she is expected to return to her seat at the panel once her theater commitments allow. Until then, audiences can catch her in My First Ex-Husband, where she is showcasing her talents in a different but equally engaging medium.
