Janelle Brown from Sister Wives shocked fans by announcing her decision to cut ties with the cast over Kody’s choice to sell Coyote Pass. Why?

Janelle Brown, star of *Sister Wives*, has been open about the shifting dynamics between herself, her ex-husband Kody Brown, and her former sister wives.

In a recent revelation, Janelle compared their relationship to a “business deal,” reflecting the tension and mistrust that has characterized the family’s struggles in recent years.

In a candid conversation shared by TLC, Janelle, 55, discussed how she feels about the complicated situation involving the family’s shared property, Coyote Pass,

which was bought by Kody, his four wives, and their children in 2018.

The reality star admitted that the situation had become more transactional than familial,

especially as the once-tight-knit group navigates the dissolution of their relationships.

“I’m so, so glad Meri [Brown] understands why it’s wise to have a lawyer because we’re not family anymore,” Janelle stated. “I mean, this is people now who are trying to dissolve a business that went bad, basically.” This comment highlighted Janelle’s view that her connections with Kody and the other wives have become increasingly detached, as they struggle to handle the family’s finances and property issues amidst their personal separations.

Janelle’s sentiments were tied to the ongoing issues surrounding Coyote Pass. The family originally purchased the land with grand plans to build homes for each of the wives and their children. However, tensions quickly arose. While Kody envisioned a shared living space, the wives—Janelle, Meri, and Christine—desired individual homes. The project never materialized, and by 2022, Christine had sold her share of the property for just $10 after she and Kody separated.

On the January 26 episode of *Sister Wives*, Janelle and Meri discussed the possibility of hiring lawyers to help them navigate the ongoing issues related to the property. At the time, they had learned that Kody and Robyn, Kody’s last remaining wife, were planning to sell the Coyote Pass land. However, Meri and Janelle felt unsure about how to proceed, as trust had eroded among them.

Janelle expressed her concerns during a private interview, saying, “I feel like Kody and Robyn probably have some plan of what they want to do and how they want to handle it.” She also noted that she and Meri had their own plans, but the lack of communication and trust between the family members made the situation more complicated. Janelle confided that she was likely to hire a lawyer to protect her interests, adding that it might be a good idea for Meri to do the same. Meri agreed, acknowledging the need for legal counsel in such a volatile situation.

In a separate confessional, Meri expressed her growing frustration. “I think that’s why I am going to get a lawyer to help me through this process,” she said. “I feel like for quite a few years I’ve sat back and just not wanted to ruffle feathers so I haven’t pushed the issue on many things, but I will push the issue now.” Meri’s statement reflects her changing perspective, as she’s no longer willing to be passive in her dealings with Kody and the rest of the family.

Janelle’s mistrust of Kody and Robyn’s intentions regarding the property has been a recurring theme in recent seasons of *Sister Wives*. She’s made it clear that she doesn’t fully believe that Kody and Robyn would act in the best interests of the entire family. This skepticism is rooted in the long-standing issues within the family, including disagreements over property, finances, and their evolving relationships.

Coyote Pass, which was purchased for $820,000 in 2018, was supposed to be the site of a shared dream for the Brown family. However, none of those dreams came to fruition. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted plans, and tensions around the property grew as visitations and family dynamics became more strained. By 2021, Christine had separated from Kody, and Janelle followed suit a year later. The project at Coyote Pass has remained stagnant, with no progress made on the land.

As *Sister Wives* continues to explore the evolving dynamics of the Brown family, it’s clear that Janelle, Meri, and the others are navigating complex emotional terrain. With the family now in a period of separation and uncertainty, the need for legal guidance has become increasingly important. The future of Coyote Pass remains uncertain, and Janelle’s reflections show just how much their relationships have shifted from the close-knit family they once were.
